When VilaNet says No working API path available at sign-in, this device cannot reach the service; that is almost always the computer or the network, not a mistyped password. A red VilaNet icon from the App Store is a different problem: it is not our app. A wrong password, or a consent checkbox that clears itself, belongs in the other articles at the end. Do not use the clock and Windows Update steps below for those.
A red icon
Our icon is blue/purple, not red. A red app that rejects your email and password is the wrong download. Delete it and install only the official app. The App Store listing needs an Apple ID that is not a mainland-China Apple ID.
- Official App Store listing: VilaNet on apps.apple.com
After it is installed, the icon should be blue/purple. Sign in with your VilaVPN email and password. A failed sign-in in the red app does not mean your email or password is wrong. iPhone steps are in the iOS guide. Mac steps are in the macOS guide. Official download channels for every platform are in Unable to download the client.
The message No working API path available
That sentence means VilaNet on this device cannot reach the service. Keep the exact text on the screen. Sign in to the VilaVPN website in a browser: if the website accepts your sign-in and only the app shows this sentence, the password is not the problem. Do not send your password, a raw subscription URL, or a token to anyone. Do not reinstall until you have finished these checks, so you do not lose the exact message.
Do not change this computer's DNS in order to sign in. See Can't Connect to Server Node? Connected but No Internet?.
- Confirm the Windows date and time are correct, then run Windows Update. A wrong clock, or a Windows installation that is missing root certificates, stops the secure connection. A very old Windows installation, or a heavily modified Ghost image, often fails this way. Sign in again after Windows Update.
- If it still fails, the network or the carrier may be blocking the connection. Turn on your phone's hotspot, join the computer to it, and try to sign in again.
- On the same Wi-Fi, install the official VilaNet on a phone and sign in. If the phone can sign in and the computer cannot, the problem is the computer: do the clock and Windows Update step above. If neither can sign in, the problem is the network: do the phone-hotspot test.
- While you sort this out, you can use the fallback Windows client, VilaX. It uses a different connection method and can still work on a computer or network where VilaNet cannot sign in. Install it only from the official downloads page, and sign in with the same VilaVPN email and password. Do not run an installer that someone forwarded to you.
If the error is not this exact sentence, follow Cannot sign in: check the email for extra spaces, re-enter the password, and confirm the same account can sign in on the VilaVPN website and that the subscription is active. If the website also rejects the sign-in, use account recovery on the website. Do not reinstall first.
How to tell it worked
- Red icon: after you switch to the official app, the icon is blue/purple, and sign-in opens the main page with Connect.
- No working API path available: the main page opens after sign-in. If the app opens but says the subscription is expired or inactive, fix the account before you connect.
Still not working?
- Allow does not make the consent checkbox stay ticked, or you see a preferences error: see the Windows checkbox will not stay checked.
- Other sign-in failures: Can't login on Client APP and how to sign in.
- Write to support from Contact Support in the app with Include app diagnostics on, and say which steps above you tried, your carrier, and your city. You can also open a ticket. Do not attach the password.
