How do I connect VilaNet, and how do I tell it is really connected?

On a phone or computer where you are already signed in, open Server Nodes, choose Fastest under Auto-Select, return to the main page and select Connect. A blue server card only means that server is selected. You are connected when the status text is blue Connected, the wing logo is blue, and the button is a red Disconnect. Then load two familiar HTTPS sites and confirm the status stays Connected. Apple TV uses a different signal.

First connection

After sign-in, Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS share this screen. Sign-in is in How do I sign in to VilaNet?.

  1. The main page shows Disconnected, the Pac Mode / Global Mode switch, the server card and a blue Connect button.
  2. Select the server card to open Server Nodes.
  3. Under Auto-Select, choose Fastest unless you need a specific place. Auto-Select picks a server from latency and load. The page returns by itself. The status is still Disconnected. Choosing a node does not connect.
  4. Select Connect. If the system asks to add a VPN configuration, read the prompt and approve it.
  5. The status turns orange Connecting, then blue Connected. Each of those lasts about a second.

Protocol groups often start collapsed. Open the group title. That empty look is not a fault. The server already has a protocol. With more than one package, use Change on Server Nodes (switch plan). If the package has no servers, pull to refresh. If it is still empty, renew at vilavpn.com, then connect.

How to tell it is really connected

Not connectedConnected
Status textDisconnected (grey)Connected (blue)
Wing logoWhiteBlue
ButtonConnect (blue)Disconnect (red)

All three change together. The server card stays blue when you are disconnected. The server list has no connected marker. A node's second line is latency. Check the main page.

Then check traffic:

  1. Leave the app open a few seconds. It should stay Connected.
  2. Note whether you used Auto Select or a specific server.
  3. Load two familiar HTTPS websites.
  4. Return to VilaNet. It should still say Connected.
  5. If you picked a place for a specific task, try that task.

An IP-check site is only a clue. Browsers, extensions and private relay can change the IP it shows. Staying Connected while pages load is the check. If pages do not load, see connected but no sites.

Pac Mode and Global Mode

The switch is on the main page, above the server card. Changing it while connected reconnects.

  • Pac Mode: overseas or blocked traffic uses the VPN. Local and domestic traffic goes direct. This is the everyday choice.
  • Global Mode: all traffic uses the VPN. Use it when the whole device should use the tunnel, or when an app fails in Pac Mode.

For a few seconds after connect or disconnect, the button will not press again. See TUN and proxy and choose a server.

Disconnect, refresh and the menu

Select the red Disconnect. The status passes through orange Disconnecting and returns to Disconnected.

Each active package has a traffic card on the main page: name, usage, expiry and reset day. What the reset day means is in When does the data reset?.

If VilaNet will not work, select Refresh (top right) or sign out and back in. Logout is at the bottom of the side bar, or of the Menu on a phone. Theme Mode (light, dark, or follow the system) and Language (System, English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Vietnamese, Persian, Korean) are in that menu. Do not import a subscription link.

Apple TV

On Apple TV, pressing Select connects. You do not press a separate Connect on Home. A green Connected badge is the signal. Blue fill is focus. See Apple TV.

Still not working?

  • Keep the first error and the server you selected. Try Auto Select once.
  • Confirm ordinary sites open while VilaNet is disconnected. If permission was denied, select Connect again and approve it. If no prompt returns, check the device VPN settings.
  • If the status drops, record the final status and the first error. Keep diagnostics before you reinstall or change many settings.
  • On the official app, refresh inside the app or sign in again. Do not pull a subscription link. Then see Troubleshooting Connectivity Issues, cannot connect, and Cannot connect.
