On Apple TV with tvOS 17 or later, install official VilaNet from the App Store and sign in with the remote. Open Servers, focus a server and press Select. It connects by itself. There is no VPN permission prompt. A green Connected badge means connected. Blue fill is only focus. Sony and other Android TVs use Android TV, not this app.
Before you start
- Apple TV on tvOS 17 or later, with internet.
- An active VilaVPN subscription, plus the account email and password.
- You cannot register on the TV. The screen says register on vilavpn.com to get started. Register and subscribe on a phone or computer first.
Allow 2–3 minutes the first time. Do not type the password into an unofficial app. This tvOS app is not the phone interface.
1. Install
- From the Apple TV Home Screen, open App Store, select Search, and search for
VilaNet. - Open the official listing, confirm the name matches VilaVPN, select Get or the download icon, then Open.
The App Store app is VilaNet. It is not on the mainland China store, so the Apple ID must be a non-China ID whose store region can see VilaNet. If search finds nothing, update tvOS under Settings > System > Software Updates and search again. Do not sideload an unknown copy.
2. Sign in
- Email is already focused. Press Select. Letters are on the top row.
@and.are on the number row.ABC/abc/#+=switch case and symbols. Press MENU to dismiss the keyboard. - Move to Password. It appears as dots.
- Tick I have read and agree to the. Under it are Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Sign In stays unavailable until the box is ticked.
- Select Sign In.
Home then shows Disconnected, Your IP, PAC Mode / Global Mode, Tap to select server and a green Connect button. The top tabs are Home, Servers and Settings. If the package is expired or inactive, renew at vilavpn.com before connecting.
3. Choose a server
- Press Up, move to Servers and press Select.
- The page shows how many servers you have, Optimal Server, Refresh, and the All Servers / AnyTLS filter. Fastest and the regional cards are Auto Select.
- The focused card enlarges, fills blue and gains a white outline. That is focus, not a connection.
- Press Select on the server you want. A green Connected badge appears above the protocol tag when the connection is up.
tvOS has no VPN consent dialog, unlike iPhone, iPad and Mac. Selecting a server starts the connection. Do not paste a subscription URL. With more than one package, pick it on Servers first.
How to tell it is connected
- The green Connected badge on the chosen card is the only reliable signal.
- Blue fill plus a white outline only means the remote is pointing at that card.
- On Home, the status changes from Disconnected to Connected.
Phones and computers need a separate Connect press. See how to connect VilaNet. On Apple TV, Select connects.
Switch or disconnect
- To switch, select another card and press Select. You do not disconnect first.
- To disconnect, press Select again on the card that shows Connected. The badge disappears. On Home the button reads Disconnect.
Still not working?
- Login Failed: the email or password is wrong. The keyboard starts in lowercase. Use
ABC/abc. - Login timed out. Please check your network connection and try again. The TV network is down or unstable.
- No packages available: you are signed in, but no package is active. Renew at vilavpn.com, then choose Refresh on Servers. There is no pull-to-refresh.
- No servers found or Failed to load servers: choose Refresh.
- Connection failed: pick another card. If several fail, send support the server name.
- VPN permission is required to establish a connection: VilaNet could not create its VPN configuration. You did not decline a prompt. Quit and reopen the app, restart the Apple TV or reinstall, then send the exact text.
- Focus stuck: press Menu/Back once. Do not submit sign-in again and again.
- Connected but nothing loads: pick another server. If the app cannot be installed, see routers and OpenWrt or Merlin.
When you contact support, include the Apple TV model, the tvOS version and the exact error. Do not send your password. Docs: VilaNet on Apple TV.
