Required permissions not granted. Please allow VPN permission and try again

Applicable error

“Required permissions not granted. Please allow VPN permission and try again.”

Why this happens

Most systems require you to approve a VPN or network extension the first time. If this approval is skipped or blocked (or another Always-on VPN is active), connections may fail.

macOS

  1. Move the app into Applications, then open it from Applications.

  2. When the prompt says “would like to use a new network extension,” click Open System Settings.

  3. macOS Sequoia 15+: System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions > Extensions > Network Extensions > enable VilaNet, authenticate if asked.

Ventura/Sonoma: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Allow or Enable the VilaNet system extension.

iOS / iPadOS

  1. On first connect, tap Allow when asked to add VPN configurations, then authenticate.

  2. If you tapped Don’t Allow before, connect again and choose Allow.

  3. On managed (MDM) devices, your admin may need to permit VPN configs.

  4. Settings > General > VPN & Device Management > VPN to review or remove profiles.

Android

  1. On first connect, accept the Connection request.

  2. If another app’s Always-on VPN is enabled, turn it off: Settings > Network & internet > VPN > gear icon > toggle Always-on off, then try again.

Windows 10/11

  1. Install and run the VPN app with administrator approval so required drivers (e.g., Wintun/TAP) can install.

  2. Approve any UAC or driver prompts. Standard users may need an admin to perform the initial driver install.

Linux (desktop)

  1. If you use NetworkManager, install the matching VPN plugin package (e.g., network-manager-openvpn, wireguard-tools), then import/connect from system network settings.

  2. CLI or containers creating TUN devices require CAP_NET_ADMIN or root privileges.

If issues persist

• Temporarily disable other VPNs, firewalls, or content filters and retry.

• Reboot and grant permissions again.

• On MDM-managed devices, ask your admin to allow VPN.
