If the same Google account shows China on every overseas server, jumps to google.com.hk, or Gemini says the region is not supported, Google is judging location from several signals. The exit IP is not broken, and VilaNet is not failing to connect. Changing servers does not clear records stored on the account and the device. A different case: the same account works on one server and fails on another. Stay on the server that works.
Every overseas server shows China
Google does not look only at the IP. It also uses the account's activity and account region, the device's GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile network, the browser's time zone and language, and location saved earlier. Most of that sits in your Google account and on the device. iplocation.net shows where the current IP is registered. The exits are overseas. The same explanation covers Gemini, YouTube, Google Play, Google Maps, Google Search, AI Studio, NotebookLM, and Google One when they say the region is not supported or show a China location.
You can try the steps below. Some cases change, none are guaranteed, and there is no repair date.
- Open google.com/ncr to stop the country redirect.
- Use a private window and stay signed out of Google. If the region is then correct, the problem is account or browser data, not the server.
- Ask Google to update the account region: country-association-form.
- Report a wrong location to Google: report a wrong location.
- While using Google services, turn off device location, including GPS and Wi-Fi scanning.
Only some servers fail
The same Google account opens Google or Gemini on one server, and on another it says the region is not supported or jumps to google.com.hk. For example, one US server works and another US server does not. The judgment is following the exit, not the account, the device, or the browser. Use the server that already works. Do not clear cookies or repeat the private-window test. A new exit IP is judged again by Google, so it is not a fix. You can still report the wrong location to Google with the links above.
How to tell it is fixed
- In a private window, signed out, Google no longer shows you in China: the problem is account or browser data.
- When only some servers fail: stay on the server that already opens the service.
Still not working?
If pages do not load at all, rather than a region message, start with Connected, but pages do not load. A missing streaming title is streaming and TV. The region check has no further connection steps. Do not keep changing servers or ask for a new exit IP for this problem.
